The NHMRC CRE in Stroke Trials has a funding scheme to support the establishment of more Stroke Trial Ready Centres across Australia. This scheme is open to hospital and health services, in partnership with academic institutions, who are looking to engage in a program of stroke clinical trials across acute, recovery and prevention; build their local trials workforce capacity; and receive mentoring in clinical trial program start-up. The CRE will provide $50,000 in funding to be matched by a $50,000 local contribution.
To be eligible, a proposed Stroke Trial Ready Centre must:
- Lack a current Stroke Research Coordinator
- Nominate an acute and recovery clinical trial ‘champion’ who are an affiliate of the CRE (can apply concurrently with EOI submission).
- Have capacity to be a site for a portfolio of clinical trials across at least two out of three streams that span the continuum of care:
- Stream 1: Acute
- Stream 2: Rehabilitation/recovery
- Stream 3: Prevention (primary or secondary).
- Have in principle executive support to provide $50,000 in matched funding.
- Have an established Human Research Ethics Committee/Research Governance Office at their site.
Priority will be given to EOIs from centres who are currently underrepresented across stroke clinical trials, and centres with champions and teams that demonstrate diversity, equity and inclusion, including, career stage, professional group and gender.

Outcome: Successful EOI applicants will be of outcomes by February 2027.
